Waking up too early makes you FAT!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

If you don’t get enough sleep your body produces less of the hormone leptin (a hormone which is involved in the body feeling full after a meal) and more of the hormone ghrelin. Ghrelin, amongst other things, increases appetite meaning the chocolate in the cupboard is a lot harder to resist. (Read the article entitled, “Sunday Morning ‘lie ins’; Mankind’s way of preventing obesity” for a more detailed explanation)

Tip 5: Broccoli is ‘the dogs nuts’ of vegetables….

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Broccoli is ‘the dogs nuts’ of vegetables….it contains vitamin C and phytochemicals (namely compounds called isothiocyanates) that greatly aid in the prevention of cancer and also stops free radicals causing damage within the body.

Tip 4: Sugary foods have the mineral chromium removed…bad news…heres why…

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Sugary foods strip other foods of their chromium, also refined processed foods have the chromium removed. This is bad news; since Chromium’s main function is to regulate blood sugar levels…unstable blood sugar levels and you are more prone to putting on fat. (see ‘articles’ section and search ’sugar’ for more info)

Tip 3: Weight Training/ Strength Training for fat loss

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Few people know that weight training is great for people who want to lose fat, since it increases your basal metabolic rate for up to 48 hours after you have finished training. I.e. It increases the rate at which your body burns calories when just resting for up to 48 hours after training has stopped. Normal aerobic cardio such as running, cycling, swimming at a steady pace only burns calories for the duration of the exercise and doesn’t elevate your basal metabolic rate

Fat Loss and Cardio

Monday, January 21st, 2008

During cardiovascular training the body doesn’t actually begin oxidising triglycerides (burning fat) until 20 minutes into training. Prior to this the body is merely mobilising triglycerides (preparing the fat to be ‘burnt’)

a.k.a. only after 20 minutes of running, cycling, swimming…etc does your body actually begin to burn fat off the body

Green Tea is not only an antioxidant, thus fights forms of cancer but it also increases the body’s metabolism (great for fat loss)
