What Is A Feed?
A feed, RSS feed, news feed, XML feed or Atom Feed are all essentially just a way to describe a cool way of getting the contents of this website (like new articles and comments) delivered directly to you as and when they are published, so you never have to remember to check back.
It’s almost like you getting an email everytime we publish something new on PimpMyHealth, but instead of clogging up your email (imagine if you used this type of service on hundreds of websites – some people do!) you use a ‘feed reader’. There are loads of free ones, but we recommend Google Reader (you can sign up instantly!).
It takes a bit of getting used to, but it has loads of uses. You can sign up for feeds (called Subscribing) on millions of site including on the BBC website, news sites, photo sites & people’s blogs. You’ll find them everywhere! It means you get instant copies of and links to new articles, comments and images as and when they are first put on the net.
To use a feed, you need to copy a special web address into your feed reader. You will often see it as a link like ‘Subscribe to…’ or ‘Site Feed’ or wherever you see the feed icon. The page probably won’t work or look great if you just try and click on it, but copy the web address it gives you and add it into your feed reader. Voila!
You should be up and running with quick, up-to-date and hassle-free feeds in no time!
